Fear of Flying
A Fear of Flying is one of the most common phobias, and it is shown by some research studies that as many as 1 in 6 people have some form of a fear of flying.
Fear of flying can develop for a number of reasons, such as:
- A fear of heights, claustrophobia, or social anxiety
- Fear of not being able to go to the toilet at will, of being sick, of others being sick, of not being in control or losing control and panicking
- Fear of turbulence, engine failure, lightening, attack…
Hypnotherapy can provide help to overcome a fear of flying. By working directly with the subconscious mind, usually over 3-6 sessions, you can begin to change your response to flying, from fear to calm. Any past trauma which may have contributed to the fear can also be resolved helping the individual to begin to feel like a confident flyer.
New technology in Virtual Reality and bio-feedback systems are now being innovatively utilised alongside more traditional therapies, including Hypnotherapy to revolutionise help for clients with phobias and anxiety. The Virtual Reality is used sensitively alongside relaxation techniques and images, enabling the client to gently reframe their previous phobic response.
Virtual Reality surroundings that can be used alongside
hypnotherapy and relaxation techniques include environments directed to the treatment of flying phobia: from the living room, travelling to the airport, the airport gate and boarding as well as the flight (on the runway, take-off and
landing), as well as augmented reality for fear of insects including spiders for those with arachnophobia. Clients can practice being around spiders in a safe virtual environment, while using relaxation and deep breathing techniques.
The Virtual Reality systems are applicable to clients with Fear of Heights, Fear of Flying, Fear of Needles, Fear of Darkness, Agoraphobia, Arachnophobia, Fear of Public Speaking, Fear of Driving, Claustrophobia, Generalised Anxiety, Social Anxiety and OCD.
